And so it begins…
That’s right, I am officially starting my journey back to the figure stage this week! I have spent the last couple of months bringing my diet back in and really changing my focus in the gym, but it’s time to get serious with both to make it where I need to be this summer/fall.
Over the last two months I restarted counting my macros with some loose goals just to get an idea of where my current metabolism was at. I am maintaining weight at about 280-300 grams of carbs a day, 140-150 grams of protein a day, and about 50 grams of fat a day. After I competed a few years ago I was eating 75 grams of carbs a day, 145 grams of protein and 35 grams of fat. So you can see that a few years off has done my metabolism, progress in the gym, and love for carbs grow :).
I have a ways to go to get stage ready, but I’m hoping the time off plus all of the work in the gym will show later this summer!
What’s different this time around?
1- I’m flying solo: During the last contest prep I had the help of some AMAZING coaches. This time around I want to prove to myself and others that while coaches are valuable and an important asset to your journey, you CAN do it on your own. I know this increases the difficulty times a million, but what better way to prove my own determination and strength to myself??
2- I have a full time job: and one with crazy hours at that. Last time through I was a full time student with a part time job which was HARD. But I also had time and breaks in my schedule to go to the gym every single day without it being a big concern. Now I work 12-14 hour shifts, night and day. On days I work, I do not work out for sanity reasons, and keeping my diet on point is so much harder. So this time through I’ll have the struggle of less time to work out and prep meals. Also my job wears me out, I mean I come home and fall asleep within the hour because I am so tired. This carries over to days off as well. I will need to push through much more difficult moments.
3- I’ll get to eat more! This is the best one. My metabolism is healthier than ever before and I carry more muscle. This will hopefully transition through contest prep and allow me to get lean at higher caloric level!
